Christoph Lüthi

Christoph Lüthi heads the Department of Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development (Sandec) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), one of the world’s leading
water research centers. His professional focus is on urban development challenges in this rapidly developing world. Christoph holds a Ph.D. in infrastructure planning from the Technical University of Berlin and has more than 25 years of experience in urban development and urban infrastructure in Africa and Asia.

His research and advocacy work concentrate on how to improve essential urban services for the urban poor. He is co-author of several sector guidelines and reference books, such as the Community-Led
Urban Environmental Sanitation planning guidelines (2011) and the Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies (2014).

He is co-producer of the popular online course WASH for Development with more than 80’000 active learners from 170+ countries worldwide.
